The Waking Of The Kraken(single)

about

'The Waking Of The Kraken' is inspired by the homely, social culture that is the fabric of having a local watering hole to go to. It was commissioned by my good friend Harvey Greenwood who wrote the original lyrics. I augmented these lyrics, borrowed some melody from an older song and this is the result-an upbeat little number with a Crosby, Stills & Nash vibe and some lovely Pedal Steel playing by Wayward Sons guitar-wielding son, Sam Wood : )

lyrics

We're wandering down the road with joy in our hearts,
Seems so long ago since we were a part of our gathering
Bleezin’ and bletherin’

But the door is finally open wide, we’re greeted with a smile
It's time to drink a welcome drink and mingle for a while
In the nooks we know
Our friends in tow

And there’s music in the corner and there’s laughter at the bar
It's all about to happen with the waking of the crack
And where mild Ruby’s on the tap
And whose round we just lost track
For you know that we’ll be back in the ‘morrow
New in time

The young team around the fireplace, the youth, the fancy free
While old timers prop the bar up telling tales of history
It’s early doors

And the rumble it grows steady as the rum begins to flow
And the more that drink is sunk It's like a sailor blindly drunken
Falling on the floor

And there’s music in the corner and there’s laughter at the bar
It's all about to happen with the waking of the crack
And where mild Ruby’s on the tap
And whose round we just lost track
For you know that we’ll be back in the ‘morrow
New in time

It’s calling time, the bell it rings, they’re closing up the till
Last orders at the bar folks, then to balance up the bill
Still we've had our fill

For this fine night will be remembered with a smile and with a grin
And all that really counts is living life out with your kin
So chin, chin, chin

For there’s music in the corner and there’s laughter at the bar
It's all about to happen with the waking of the crack
And where mild Ruby’s on the tap
And whose round we just lost track
For you know that we’ll be back in the ‘morrow
New in time
