about

The first couple of verses for this song had been kicking around for almost a year when lockdown occurred in late March 2020. I tasked myself with finishing the song, which then led me into the process of writing an album's worth of songs. So in effect, Leopard was the song that kicked-started me towards the new album.

Leopard deals with the question, 'Can you really change who you are fundamentally?' and explores this question through different scenarios(unfaithfulness,mid-life crises)-some autobiographical, some imagined.

lyrics

I broke through the heaving tide
To get to you, the fevered bride
Dressed in fresh pressed Sunday best
Unbeknown that I would soon be put to test

I walked in and caught you out
embraced in sin there was no doubt
That you did take me for a mug
And so it's due, I'll pull this rug from under you

Oil your shield and do not yield to those who would eschew
The promise not to break heart it's something I ask you
For if a Leopard cannot change its' spots then nor can you?

Drowned in sound that has no soul
I am dressed like a clown but my skin is
Older than its' years and my eyes are wide
With the fear of being tossed and turned in a bed of lies

Oil your shield and do not yield to those who would eschew
The promise not to break heart it's something I ask you
For if a Leopard cannot change its' spots then nor can you?

So fall in line and bend your ears
Forsake those who would feed your fears
And take a lend, play with your heart
Don't pretend that they won't keep you in the dark

Oil your shield and do not yield to those who would eschew
The promise not to break heart it's something I ask you
For if a Leopard cannot change its' spots then nor can you?
